It is a pleasure to be serving the folks of South Whidbey at this unique and wonderful thing called the Good Cheer Food Bank.
Where to start…I have just recently hailed from Portland, Oregon, where I was studying at Portland State University. I have worked on a Master’s in science teaching, focusing my research on garden based education in a high school for the visually impaired. I developed a love for agriculture in my time WWOOF’ing in Europe and since then I have worked as an apprentice at an organic farm in southern Oregon, and in Portland managed a volunteer based community garden, interned as a farm educator at Zenger farm, and designed and maintained a garden at my former home.
Regarding my philosophy, simply put, my life revolves around food…in just about all facets. I have been a cook since I was young and have worked in food service since I was a teen. Cooking and eating food is an integral part of my life. As the Fresh Food on the Table apprentice, my role will be to make sure that the link between the garden and the food bank remains strong and streamlined. I’ll be teaching some cooking classes, too…I am interested in all forms of the culinary arts: salads, entrees, appetizers, baking, sprouting, raw foods, canning, fermenting, ethnic, you name it! So stay tuned for that! You will also see me in the garden and in the food bank where I will be cooking soup a couple of days a week. In addition, I will be working with the Bayview school students, getting their garden set up and ready to rock for the summer.
Holla at ya boy!
